Our home patch
We are based in Crossgates, so Whinmoor, Swarcliffe and Seacroft are about as local as it gets for us. Most of Whinmoor was built in the early 1970s as an extension of Seacroft, and many of the houses that started out as council homes are now privately owned, often with their original gardens and ready for a change.
New homes are going up as well, with the East Leeds Orbital Road opening up the land to the north and east. New estates bring the usual new-build garden: thin topsoil, heavy ground underneath and a basic fence.
A Raj green patio in Whinmoor
The patio at the top of this page is one of our Whinmoor jobs: roughly 60 square metres of Raj green Indian sandstone laid right across the back of a bungalow, with a timber sleeper border where the paving meets the garden. Raj green mixes greens, browns and gold, and goes a good deal darker in the rain, as the close-up below shows.
On a patio that size, most of the work is the part you never see: digging out, a compacted sub-base, and a gentle fall across the whole width so water runs away from the house rather than sitting against the wall.

Other work around Whinmoor
Driveways
Block paving, Indian stone and gravel, built on a dug-out and compacted base. Read about our new driveways.
Fencing
Featheredge, picket and composite panels on concrete posts, with timber fencing as a job on its own welcome.
Garden walls
Low front walls, raised beds and retaining walls where a garden changes level.
Decking and lawns
Timber and composite decking, and artificial grass where a lawn never dries out.
Making a garden easier to use
Plenty of jobs are not full makeovers. They are about making a garden easier to live with: replacing a lawn that stays muddy all winter, taking out an awkward step at the back door, or adding a path so the bins can come round without crossing the grass. Small jobs like these are welcome.
Typical patio and driveway figures are on our paving costs page, and everything is priced properly once we have seen it.
Nearby
Next door we cover Crossgates, Swarcliffe, Seacroft, Scholes and Barwick-in-Elmet, and further east Garforth. Towards the city, we lay patios and paths across Roundhay and Oakwood.
Whinmoor questions
Are you local to Whinmoor?
Yes. We are based in Crossgates, next door to Whinmoor, so we can usually come out to look at a job quickly.
How much would a patio like the Raj green one cost?
It depends on the size, the stone and how much groundwork the garden needs. Our costs page gives typical figures per square metre, and we give a fixed written price after a visit.
Do you take on small jobs?
Yes. A short run of fencing, a path, a single step or a small patio outside the back door are all welcome, as well as whole gardens.
Does Raj green fade?
Like most Indian sandstone it softens a little in colour over the years, and it always looks darker when wet. A sealer can slow the fading; we can talk through whether it is worth it for your patio.
